Are There Dolphins in Alaska?

Many people are surprised to learn that there are actually dolphins in Alaska. These marine mammals can be found in both the Arctic and Antarctic oceans. While they are most commonly associated with warm tropical waters, dolphins are very adaptable creatures and can live in a variety of different climates.

There are two main types of dolphins that can be found in Alaska: The beluga whale and the narwhal.

Beluga whales are smaller than other dolphins, measuring only about 15 feet in length on average. They are easily recognizable by their white coloration and their distinctive bulbous forehead.

Narwhals, on the other hand, are slightly larger, averaging around 18 feet in length. They are mostly black or dark grey, with a long spiral tusk growing out of the left side of their head.

Both beluga whales and narwhals can be found in the Arctic Ocean near Alaska. In fact, these creatures are so well-adapted to life in the cold that they actually have a layer of blubber beneath their skin to help keep them warm. If you’re lucky enough to spot a dolphin while you’re in Alaska, be sure to take some pictures and enjoy the experience!

Dolphins may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Alaska, but these fascinating creatures can actually be found in both the Arctic and Antarctic oceans. If you’re lucky enough to see one while you’re on your vacation, be sure to snap a few photos and enjoy the moment!
